A lot of gems in 2020 for dramas, and this is one of them! This drama is only four episodes long and completely subbed on Youtube! Yes, it’s short but mighty with a punch to the point a whole series is about to air! I, for one, am super excited as I dearly love this story in En of Love.

Background:

The drama starts to pick up where the characters left off from the previous story. En of Love is divided into three stories; each one deals with its own love and problems. It’s not necessary to watch all three stories to understand a story individually. However, it helps you better grasp the situation of their current life. A short recap from En of love: TOSSARA (2020), Mark (supporting character in TOSSARA) is in love with Bar, his senior. Bar, however, is in love with Gun, a future doctor. Bar and Gun end up together and madly in love. Mark’s love, of course, remains one-sided. I was not a fan of this story in En of Love. But I want to point out that Vee and Marks’s first interaction is when the whole gang is seated at dinner, and Vee points out to Bar in front of everyone that he thinks Mark likes Bar. Mark looks at Vee, all smug. Okay, now we’re ready to start!

The Drama:

Mark (Wanarat Ratsameerat, better known as War) is a student in the engineering department. He is devastated from losing his potential lover Bar, who is now happily dating Gun. As Mark tries to move on, he finds it difficult to let go of his one-sided love. The scene opens with Mark completely wasted in the hallway of a bar. Vee (Yin Anan Wong), his senior, appears and asks Mark if he’s okay. Mark clings to Vee and starts calling out Bar’s name ( I want to cry again). Vee asks him if he wants Bar that much? He agrees to Marks’ request of being Bar for the night (Vee, WTF). Vee is a student in the mechanic’s department of their university and currently dating Ploy. Mark remains heartbroken while Vee keeps showing up in his life. This is not surprising, considering Vee is friends with Bar. They begin to develop feelings, but a love that started messily is bound to end in flames.

Why I recommend this drama:

The one-night stand is controversial, in my opinion, since Mark is wasted. And the Magna version was wild! (that’s the only part I read, yeah I know) I just had to know why Mark lost his voice, and to my better judgment, I hopped on to the recommendations of die-hard En of love fans. Who did warn me, but I went searching anyways. Okay, moving on, this drama is messy! But I love it so much. The characters aren’t perfect, the loves not perfect. It started badly, to be honest, but the feelings are there. And you can see how they helped each other move on, and It was unconventional. There is cheating and lots of it, but you can also see the broken relationship and messed-up dynamics between said couples. Love was created out of something terrible for everyone. I think it’s a story worth telling, no matter how messed up it may be. And it’s a small portion of a drama that’s so good it’s getting an adaptation later this year, thankfully! Love Mechanics 2021! LET’S GO! We need to know the fillers! This is a drama I will keep recommending because I genuinely believe people will love it and the characters involved.

Mark’s Character:

Mark is sweet, and we can see that when he’s with his friends. Ugh, his friends are honestly my favorite. They have his back and look out for him so much it makes me smile. But, I cannot express how much I love Mark! Mark is so sad, and I gravitate towards him. The look in his eyes and his body language screams heartbroken. He’s moody, smart-mouthed, and doesn’t pay much attention to Vee. I love it. You can tell everyone around him deeply loves him. He’s having such a hard time throughout most of this drama. If it’s not from losing Bar, it’s Vee. We never once see Mark crying, but we can sense his sadness, disappointment, anger, jealousy, resentment, hopelessness through his eyes and words! You can tell he wants to be the first choice and not a second choice and is tired of chasing love when they don’t want all of him, only a piece of him. And Mark wants his love to be reciprocated. Mark is not very expressive, but he doesn’t hold back and means what he says. But his eyes, they don’t lie.

Vee’s Character:

Where does one start? I am not a massive fan of Vee. But I understand, Vee. And you know what…even then, I am rooting for him. Why? He’s oblivious. He turned a blind eye to everything that was happening between him and his girlfriend. I truly believe he wanted to protect himself from reality. He knew everyone knew, but he didn’t want to accept it. Because I think he still loved her or the thought of being them. Because everyone said, they were perfect. Vee cries, and he cries often. It is usually caused by his actions, so I cannot feel too bad for him. I think his distortion of what a relationship is supposed to be is slightly attributed to his dysfunctional relationship with Ploy. Like he got messed up there. But it doesn’t excuse his behavior. And his friends often put him in check. Vee found comfort, love, understanding, and a second chance with Mark. And that’s where you begin to see a shift in his personality. He starts to smile again and doesn’t look like he’s about to cry when talking about his partner. He is a sad and hurt character, just like Mark.

Also, I don’t hate Vee. I just dislike his choices! I love his redemption in the drama. And love that Vee at the end.

Vee and Mark’s Relationship:

Mark and Vee were cold to each other in the beginning. It was a give-and-take situation. Vee started to seek Mark, and he became almost possessive in a weird way. They weren’t friends; they didn’t have the same major; they just ran in a close circle of friends. So it was easy to see each other even if one didn’t want to. I think Mark was trying to protect himself since Vee is taken and straight. Whereas Mark just got heartbroken and didn’t want to catch feelings for someone he possibly couldn’t have. It would have been devastating. But you could see Mark starting to warm up to Vee, although he was visibly confused. Vee wasn’t very straightforward in his intentions. He wanted a relationship without actually being in one. Mark truly deserved better. I can see why Mark was hesitant jumping into Vee’s arms. They were already full. Once everything is settled, Vee truly learns that Mark isn’t the one to string along. Mark isn’t Ploy. And he’s not Vee. You either want to be with Mark only, or you don’t at all. Mark is a king for his power move. He really had Vee on edge.

The thing that truly broke my heart, and even now, I get sad thinking about it. Mark constantly receives the bad side of the relationship. He was always just waiting for Vee. And Vee was often jealous and possessive of Mark. He was mad about the wrong things. He constantly accused Mark of still having feelings for Bar. In reality, Mark was always getting hurt by Vee and Ploy. Mark couldn’t throw tantrums like Vee. Mark wasn’t Vee’s boyfriend. And Vee actually had a girlfriend. Even when Vee didn’t have a girlfriend, he still didn’t fully commit to being with Mark. I am about to cry for Mark again.

But on the sweeter side, you could see them gradually become happy together. You could see the sadness leaving their eyes and smiles brought back to their faces. They gave each other a home the other needed. And a reality check when everything went dark. They didn’t fix each other, but they did bring happiness when they needed someone the most.

I hope you enjoyed this review enough to watch the drama! And it’s a million times better than what I am describing. You have to watch it to understand my love for these characters!
